A Surprising Turn of Events and a Growing Fondness for the Characters

After a somewhat unconvincing start with Episode 1, Episode 2 of Acro Trip brings a surprising amount of depth and humor that made me appreciate the show a lot more. Initially, I thought Chizuko would be the sole focus of the story, but the opening hints that all three protagonists are equally central. Among them, Chrome has already captured my attention as the most intriguing character so far.

Chrome is a self-proclaimed villain, but he's such a unique mix of cowardice, masochism, and pathetic charm that it's hard not to root for him. Despite his flaws, there’s something endearing about his failures and twisted schemes. One standout moment is when he locks himself and Chizuko in a closet, which at first seemed like a ridiculous mistake, but was later revealed to be part of a bizarre plan to recruit Chizuko to his side.

What makes the situation even funnier is that Chizuko didn’t even need to sign any contract — Chrome’s evil lair is conveniently located right underneath her grandpa’s house! And grandpa, without any second thoughts, took Chrome in like a stray dog. This dynamic added a level of absurd humor that caught me off-guard.

Berry Blossom: A Mysterious and Quirky Heroine

Berry Blossom, on the other hand, continues to be a mystery. Though not much about her character has been revealed yet, I’m enjoying her quirks, such as not using magic against regular people due to laws that restrict her actions. Her complicated relationship with the police adds an interesting layer to her character. I’m eager to see how her backstory unfolds in future episodes.

Final Thoughts: More to Look Forward To

These first two episodes have set up a promising foundation for the series. With its humorous take on the magical girl genre and lovable cast of characters, Acro Trip has the potential to deliver more unexpected laughs and character moments. I’m particularly excited to see how Chizuko’s reluctant involvement with Chrome’s villainous organization will play out and what role Berry Blossom will ultimately take in this unconventional trio.

I can’t wait for next week’s episode and to see how these delightful dorks will continue to navigate their absurd world!

Ao no Hako - Blue Box Episode 2 Review

It feels like déjà vu, but not in a good way. Blue Box, or Ao no Hako , has stumbled into distribution hell, much like Shikanoko Nokotan . Episode 2 has been released in Japan with multilingual subs, yet the rest of the world only has Episode 1 on Netflix.
