Demon Lord, Retry! R - Episode 4 Review

Hey there, fellow anime fans! Just wrapped up the latest episode of Demon Lord, Retry! R, and there's quite a bit to unpack here. Let's dive into what made Episode 4 such an interesting watch!

First up, let's address the elephant in the room - the voice actor changes. Almost everyone except our main man Kenjiro Tsuda (voicing Kunai) got recast. The show's author actually stepped in to explain why, and it turns out it was mostly due to scheduling conflicts and production team changes. You know how it goes in the industry! Honestly, while it took a minute to get used to the new voices, they're growing on me.

The Good Stuff:

  • Kunai is still absolute fire (thanks to Tsuda-san staying on board)
  • The political plot is getting super interesting
  • That plot twist with the Holy Maiden's childhood friend? Didn't see that coming!
  • The animation quality remains solid throughout

The "Could Be Better" Department:

  • So. Many. New. Characters. (My brain needs a flowchart to keep track!)
  • The pacing feels like someone's got their finger stuck on the fast-forward button
  • Some of the comedy bits feel a bit forced when things get serious

Speaking of new characters, we've got this young queen and her advisor Kongming joining the cast. They're interesting additions, but I kind of wish we had more time to get to know them better. The show's trying to juggle a lot of balls here - new characters, political intrigue, a rescue mission plot, and our regular cast's shenanigans.

The rescue mission subplot is probably my favorite part of this episode. Finding out that the Holy Maiden's childhood friend is alive but enslaved? That's some heavy stuff right there. It adds a real layer of depth to the world-building and shows us that not everything in this fantasy world is sunshine and rainbows.

What Really Worked:

  • The expanding political landscape
  • Character designs for the new additions
  • Kunai's continued development as a character
  • The setup for future conflicts

What Could Use Some Work:

  • Pacing needs to catch its breath
  • Better balance between serious moments and comedy
  • More time to develop the new characters

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

While it feels a bit overstuffed, Episode 4 still delivers an entertaining watch with enough plot hooks to keep you coming back for more. The new voice cast is settling in nicely, and the expanding story promises some exciting developments ahead. If you're a fan of fantasy anime with a mix of political intrigue and action, this one's worth sticking with.

Quick Recommendation:

If you're new to the series, definitely start from the beginning. There's too much context you'd miss jumping in here!

Looking Forward:

That rescue mission setup has me really curious about what's coming next. Plus, I'm keen to see how all these new political players fit into the bigger picture.

What did you think about the episode? Are you enjoying the new voice cast? Let me know your thoughts!

Note: Watching the previous season definitely helps with appreciating all the changes and developments in this episode.
