How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer – Episode 2 Review
How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer Episode 2 kicks the romcom chaos into high gear, delivering a perfect blend of humor, awkward tension, and developing relationships. The episode brings plenty of laughs and some surprising depth, especially as Hagi faces a personal crisis, Asagi shows his unflinching loyalty, and our cast of quirky characters navigate increasingly complicated feelings. Let’s dive into what made this episode stand out.
Asagi Jumps Right In – The Ultimate Wingman
Asagi is the kind of guy every romcom needs. He’s the high-energy, go-with-the-flow character who’s always game for anything. Whether it’s helping Fuji with her somewhat questionable modeling requests or getting roped into her quirky antics, Asagi embraces every situation with enthusiasm. He’s the perfect counterbalance to Fuji’s more serious, low-energy demeanor. Watching him get involved with her unique brand of chaos—whether he fully understands it or not—makes their dynamic endlessly entertaining.
In this episode, Fuji introduces her world of Doujinshi (which we learn involves some rather interesting dynamics with shonen characters), and Asagi just goes along with it. His cluelessness is part of the charm, but there’s also a sense that their connection is growing because he’s always willing to support her, no matter how bizarre the situation.
Hagi’s Bi Panic – Crisis Mode Activated
Meanwhile, poor Hagi is dealing with his own set of challenges. Entering the realm of "Bi Panic," he’s clearly flustered by his unexpected attraction to Kohaku—especially in drag. Hagi is in deep denial, trying to convince himself that his feelings only stem from knowing Kohaku is a girl, but it’s clear that there’s more going on.
When Hagi shares his umbrella with Kohaku in the classic romcom rain scenario and even gives her his sweater, he’s not just doing a good deed—he’s experiencing a full-blown internal crisis. The more time he spends with Kohaku, the more confused he becomes about his feelings. His growing attraction, masked by awkward denial, adds a layer of humor and sweetness to the episode. It’s relatable and endearing to see him stumble through these emotions, and it makes us all wonder how much more complicated things will get.
Romantic Antics – Maid Cafés and Moe Moe Kyuun
No romcom would be complete without a little competition and jealousy. Suo, ever the yandere, isn’t about to let her guy, Tokiwa, enjoy the attention of any other girl. After he visits a maid café, Suo turns up the intensity, serving Tokiwa omurice with her own hands-on, personal touch. With plenty of “Moe Moe Kyuun” energy, Suo gives him a serving of cute aggression that’s as intimate as it is hilarious.
This scene is a fun callback to classic anime maid café tropes, but with Suo’s fiery personality in the mix, it feels fresh. Her interactions with Tokiwa are always a highlight, and their chemistry continues to grow in hilarious ways.
Kohaku’s Arrogant Persona – Romcom Strategy 101
Kohaku is still finding her footing when it comes to embodying the "haughty, arrogant bad boy" persona she’s been playing at the mixer. It’s clear that she’s out of her comfort zone but fully committed. Her attempt at arrogance is both awkward and adorable, but we all know that underneath it, she’s nervous—especially when it comes to Hagi.
With hints of romance brewing between them, I’m curious to see if Kohaku will use her knowledge of shojo manga to her advantage. It’s possible she’ll try to play the cool, confident character in front of Hagi to see how he reacts, especially when she returns his sweater from the rain scene.
Final Thoughts – Romcom Chaos at Its Best
Episode 2 of How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer successfully builds on the first episode’s promise, bringing a blend of high-energy comedy, romantic tension, and genuine character growth. Asagi continues to be the ultimate wingman, Hagi’s romantic confusion escalates, and the interactions between the characters remain delightful and dynamic.
Whether it’s through romcom tropes like the rainy-day umbrella scene or the hilarity of Asagi’s clueless support of Fuji, this episode hits all the right notes. The show is shaping up to be a fun and unpredictable ride, filled with relatable moments and laugh-out-loud humor. I can’t wait to see how the relationships develop in future episodes.
What did you think of Episode 2? Is Hagi’s panic relatable? Will Asagi ever realize what he’s gotten himself into with Fuji? Let me know in the comments!
