Re:Zero Starting Life in Another World Season 3 - Episode 1 Review
After almost four years of waiting, Re Zero Starting Life in Another World
is back with a bang! The season kicks off with a massive 90-minute episode, packed with everything that made the series unforgettable from the start. From the superb animation quality reminiscent of Season 1 to the gripping character interactions, this episode sets the tone for what's bound to be an incredible season.I couldn’t help but laugh when the girl bit her tongue—it instantly reminded me of the classic "sorry, I bit my tongue" line from Monogatari. The timing was just perfect! Unrelated, but I would love to see a crossover between Re Zero Starting Life in Another World.
and Monogatari. Both series have large casts of fascinating characters, and a collaboration would be absolutely legendary. It’s surreal seeing Subaru and Beatrice’s dynamic evolve so much since the last season. Their relationship has taken on an almost sibling-like quality, and it's adorable to see Beatrice mimicking Subaru’s behavior. It’s such a wholesome change considering the turmoil they've both endured.
And that ending scene with Sirius? It was intense, eerie, and everything I hoped for from the adaptation. The juxtaposition of her polite demeanor with the horrific actions she commands—the crowd, including Subaru, cheering for a child's death—was chilling. Seeing Subaru play along, and realizing he’s completely aware of the brutality unfolding, made me uneasy in a way that only Re Zero can.
Speaking of Beatrice, her development from a reserved shut-in to someone who openly expresses emotions was one of the highlights for me. It was touching to see her growth throughout the series. The contrast between the lighthearted moments and the sudden, brutal shift towards the end was masterfully done.
It’s crazy to think it’s been four years since the last season. Watching this episode felt almost like a dream; I’ve gotten so used to waiting that it’s hard to believe Re Zero is finally back. And according to some leaks, we’re getting 38 episodes for this season! The first episode alone was like four episodes in one—talk about a generous welcome back.
The scene with the Archbishop of Wrath was another standout moment. Watching the sheer dread unfold, I didn’t blink once during that sequence. It’s rare for an anime to capture such a visceral feeling of unease and suspense, but Re Zero Delivered. And with Sirius' twisted mind games, things are only going to get darker from here.
Looking forward, I can’t wait to see how this season explores the relationships and dynamics between characters we haven’t seen in a while. The chemistry between Subaru and Wilhelm, and even the brief mentions of Reinhard and Heinkel, hint at some serious character development to come. There’s so much depth to these interactions—it’s what sets Re Zero apart.
The show’s ability to mix humor, intense action, and psychological horror makes every episode a rollercoaster of emotions. I genuinely hope they keep up the extended runtimes, as it allows the story to breathe and really build on the atmosphere.
Overall, this episode was a thrilling start to the season, and it’s great to be back in this world. Subaru’s journey is bound to be full of pain, suffering, and eventual growth.
"Don't miss out! Be sure to check back here for the next episode—it's a must-read!"
