Episode 1 of the Kyoto Disturbance arc brings the series back with a powerful mix of action, emotion, and character development. As Kenshin sets off for Kyoto, his departure impacts those he's left behind, especially Kaoru and Megumi. The tension of Kenshin’s absence is palpable, with Kaoru visibly struggling and Megumi’s composed but quiet pain showing how deeply Kenshin’s presence has influenced their lives.

The episode expertly builds up with a duel between Saito and Sanosuke, serving as a brutal reminder of their unresolved rivalry and the intensity of the challenges awaiting in Kyoto. Saito’s relentless fighting style tests Sanosuke’s grit and hints at his own complicated connection to Kenshin. This duel not only serves as an action high point but is also layered with insights into each character’s growth, as Saito grudgingly respects Sanosuke's unyielding spirit.
