Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister - Episode 4 Review

Episode 4 of "Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister" hits hard with an emotional and comedic rollercoaster, bringing some key moments of character development while also showcasing the bond between the shrine and the community.

Moemon’s "Not a Bad Guy" Moment? Not So Fast...

The episode kicks off with Moemon, who claims he’s not the bad guy, but then proceeds to deliver a harsh insult to the girls’ late mother. It was a frustrating moment for viewers. Characters with that classic “closed-eye villain” look tend to raise red flags, and Moemon’s behavior was no exception. Voiced by Koji Yusa, who often plays morally ambiguous or villainous characters, Moemon’s actions left a bitter taste, making him an easy target for audience frustration. His disregard for the Amagami family’s loss was simply uncalled for, and I couldn’t help but root for Uryu and the sisters to prove him wrong.

Nostalgic Shrine and Social Media Woes

One of the funniest moments in the episode was the depiction of the shrine’s website, which looked like something straight out of the early 2000s—complete with a nostalgic dial-up tone. The outdated design added some charming humour to the episode, underscoring just how out of touch the shrine had become.

It’s also cute to see how the Amagami sisters, particularly Asahi, struggle with social media. Asahi posts some stunning photos, but they barely get any likes. How could no one appreciate her beauty? It adds a light hearted and relatable layer, especially in a world where social media success often feels like a mystery. Still, this moment helped humanize the sisters, showing that despite their good looks, they face their own challenges.

Community Spirit and Connection

One of the most heart-warming aspects of this episode was seeing the neighbourhood come together to support the shrine. Despite the shrine’s struggles and outdated appeal, the locals showed that they truly care. It’s clear they’ve always wanted to reconnect with the shrine but just needed the right opportunity. Uryu, an outsider and a man of science, stepping in to bring this spiritual community together was an interesting juxtaposition, but it worked brilliantly in the narrative. His actions demonstrated how practical knowledge can revitalize traditions and create meaningful bonds.

Final Thoughts

Episode 4 did a great job balancing humour, emotional beats, and character growth. Moemon’s harsh words added tension, but it also gave the sisters and Uryu an opportunity to step up and prove their worth. The combination of outdated tech, social media missteps, and the growing support of the local community made this episode both funny and heart warming.

I can’t wait to see how the upcoming festival turns out. It’s clear the community wants the shrine to succeed, and the sisters are finally living up to their responsibilities and their mother’s legacy. Let’s hope the festival is a success and that Moemon eats his words!

Rating: 8/10 – A solid episode with a mix of humour, frustration, and heart-warming moments. The characters are growing, and the neighborhood’s support adds a nice touch of unity.
